investment company

(in LR) a company whose object is to invest its funds wholly or mainly in:

1. (a) any of the following investments specified in the Regulated Activities Order:
   1. (i) share (article 76);
   1. (ii) debenture (article 77);
   1. (iii) government and public security (article 78);
   1. (iv) warrant (article 79);
   1. (v) certificate representing certain securities (article 80);
   1. (vi) unit (article 81);
   1. (vii) option (article 83);
   1. (viii) future (article 84);
   1. (ix) contract for differences (article 85);
   1. (x) rights to or interests in investments in (i) to (ix) (article 89); or
1. (b) interests in partnership arrangements, participations, joint ventures and other forms of non-corporate investment provided that the conditions of listing are met; or
1. (c) interests in any other property provided that the relevant requirements of this chapter are met;

with the object of spreading investment risk and managing its portfolio for the benefit of its shareholders.36
