The main text of CRED is numbered as follows:

    chapter 1 (2, 3 etc)

  2. (2)

    section 1.1 (1.2, 1.3 etc)

  3. (3)

    paragraph 1 (1.1.2, 1.1.3 etc)

  4. (4)

    sub-paragraph 1.1.1(1) (1.1.1(2), 1.1.1(3) etc)

Further sub-paragraphs are shown by (a), (b), (c) and so on, and then by (i), (ii), (iii) and so on. For example, the third paragraph of the second section of the first chapter in the Conduct of Business sourcebook, if it were a rule, would be COBS 1.2.3R1. If there were two further sub-paragraphs, it would be COBS 1.2.3R (1)(a)1
